چکیده
abstract introduction: diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic and endocrine disease. depressed heart rate variability (hrv) is an early warning sign of diabetic neuropathy. in numerous studies, spironolactone improved hrv and decreased mortality in congestive heart failure (chf). this study was performed to assess the effect of spironolactone on hrv in diabetic patients. methods: this prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial was performed on 62 diabetic patients with autonomic neuropathy at isfahan cardiovascular research center. baseline hrv was measured with time domain and frequency domain methods using a valiance system manufactured by us biomedical systems inc. (2000). the patients were then randomly placed in case and control groups. the control group was given placebo and the case group was given 25mg spironolactone twice daily for two months. hrv was measured at the end of this period and data were analyzed using spss. hrv before and after medication was compared with t-test, paired t-test, wilcoxon test, and mann-whitney test. results: twenty-nine patients in the control group and thirty-three patients in the case group were assessed. hrv was measured before and after the study. t-test and mann-whitney test revealed no significant difference between hrv in the two groups. paired t-test and wilcoxon test did not show any significant difference of hrv within the two groups. discussion: in this study, spironolactone did not improve hrv in diabetic patients.

Based on psychophysiological research, coherent heart-brain interaction can change afferent cardiac signal pattern sent to the brain. Accordingly, the present study aimed at facilitating the emotion-cognition interaction through HeartMath Institute self-regulated emotional techniques to investigate the efficacy of heart-brain coherence on reading anxiety reduction that significantly enhances at...

Background: This study aims to evaluate the effect of exercise training on heart rate variability (HRV) and to determine the correlation between parameters of HRV and the ejection fraction in patients with heart failure after percutaneous coronary intervention.Material and Methods: Fifty patients with left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 40% undergone percutaneous coronary intervention were r...

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) of two short-term photoplethysmogram (PPG)
Heart rate variability (HRV) is often analyzed using short-term studies: 5-min and 2-min heart rate datasets. The correlation between the two data segments in HRV analysis has not been well understood. This paper reports a statistical comparison of the results of HRV spectral analysis for the 5-minute versus 2-minute short-term studies using photoplethysmogram (PPG). Twenty repeat measurements ...
متن کاملShort-term heart rate variability (HRV) in healthy dogs.
Heart rate variability (HRV) is a well established mortality risk factor in both healthy dogs and those with heart failure. While the standards for short-term HRV analysis have been developed in humans, only reference values for HRV parameters determined from 24-hour ECG have been proposed in dogs. The aim of this study was to develop the reference values for short-term HRV parameters in a grou...

A common cause of death in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients on dialysis is sudden cardiac death (SCD). Compared to the general population, the percentage of cardiovascular deaths that are attributed to SCD is higher in patients treated by dialysis. While coronary artery disease (CAD) is the predominant cause of SCD in dialysis patients, reduced heart rate variability (HRV) may play a rol...
